I’m Ben Ward and I run Moor Park Garden, a 1.5 acre “no-dig” walled garden in Llanbedr, near Crickhowell. Over the past few years I’ve restored the garden to its former glory, using zero chemicals, no pesticides and no synthetic fertilisers because that’s better for the environment. And with an eye on the future I’ve also planted the neighbouring field with fruit trees.
My focus is on growing seasonal fruit and veg in a way that’s beyond organic. And to keep food miles low, I sell the harvest to local shops and restaurants and deliver weekly veg boxes to nearby homes.
Living in a rural area all my life, I have witnessed the massive decline in birds, bees and butterflies because of the use of pesticides, and what the increase in carbon emissions is doing to the planet. So, if I can do my bit, and others can do theirs, then hopefully we can start to make a difference.
Weekly veg boxWe currently offer 3sizes of veg box. Standard (£11.50) and Large (£22) boxes contain a minimum 6 items and will consist of a selection of seasonal produce which is perfectly ripe and ready for harvest that week. We also offer a Veg lovers box (£18) which contains a minimum of 9 items which will include all the items in our standard box plus additional items which I grow in small volumes, such as aubergines, peppers, globe artichoke, soft fruits (blueberries, currants, raspberries).
I try to vary the contents of each box each week so no 2 boxes will be the same. The is also our WhatsApp group for customers where I offer any additional produce I have available which you can add/swap to your box.
During the winter months I buy in some items to supplement my own produce and keep the box contents varied. This is always sourced from other local, small scale growers who share our ethos or organic certified farms.
Payment can be made in cash or via bank transfer. Delivery is available to anywhere within a 5 mile radius of Moor Park Garden, Llanbedr. For customers in the Abergavenny area, you can collect your veg box from Chester’s Wine Merchants on Friday evening.
