Looking to buy fresh, locally grown fruit and veg that’s better for you, better for your community and better for the planet?
Then you’ve come to the right place.
Bannau Acres connects customers like you with a growing network of small-scale independent farmers working across Bannau Brycheiniog, Powys and Monmouthshire to produce food for their local communities.
Join one of their veg box schemes or buy at their farm shop or market stall and you’ll discover nutritious seasonal fruit and veg that tastes amazing. And you’ll be helping to build a fairer, more secure food system that’s kind to people and the planet – and that’s good news for everyone.
This kind of farming can be incredibly productive, with one acre supplying enough fresh fruit and veg to feed 50+ families during the growing season. It’s also good for the local community, building jobs and skills, providing volunteering and training opportunities, reconnecting people with farming and the landscape, and creating the kind of short, locally owned supply chains that keep money circulating in the local economy. Our network makes it easier for people to choose and use fresh, seasonal and local food and play their part in creating a fairer, more sustainable food system.
This kind of farming focuses on building soil health, fixing carbon in the soil and helping to restore nature. This is in stark contrast to the current industrialised food and farming system, which is responsible for a third of the world’s carbon emissions and is the leading cause of nature collapse.
Freshly picked and locally grown is always first choice, but from time to time, our farmers may need to buy in produce from a little further afield to give you more variety.
Our network has agreed that any produce they don’t grow themselves will always be UK grown (usually within a 40-mile radius) and often organic certified.
We’re all for asparagus and strawberries – but only when they’re in season here in the UK. We aim to help people shift to more sustainable, healthy and varied* seasonal diets – and believe us: there are plenty of great things to eat here in the UK, throughout the year.
*Gut health expert Professor Tim Spector recommends eating at least 30 different plants a week – including in-season fruit and veg, as well as nuts, seeds, pulses, wholegrains, spices and herbs.
